Hickory is one of Victoria’s foremost builders and wanted their office fitout designed to present a public face for them that reflected their business philosophies, alongside the launch of their new corporate logo.
They share a uniquely open and equally contributory relationship with their staff and contractors and this had to be reflected in the appearance of their office and in the way the office floor operates. The reception walls are a three dimensional focal point, incorporating logos, positive and negative spaces which twist and turn, drawing people through the office.
Never segregating the working operation from visiting contractors or potential clients, the boardroom, which is enclosed by full height glazing, looks out onto their café and a general work floor.
The funky, retro forms of this interior are tempered by clever use of solid and transparent colour. An unusual palette of strong, transparent colour used sparingly on full height glass partitioning offsets the cool colours of the three dimensional elements, which carry the corporate identity around the walls of the public spaces.
The result, while seemingly restrained, is striking and acts as a showcase for the clients’ innovation, technical skill and craftsmanship as contributory builders in Melbourne’s built environment.
